What we do
Every state sets child support with a formula written into its own law: a percentage of income in some states, an "income shares" table in most, a fraction formula in California. We build one calculator per state from that state's statute, schedule and official worksheet, and show every step so you can check it against the source.
Where the numbers come from
Only from primary sources: state statutes and court rules, the official guideline schedules and worksheets states publish, state child support agencies, and federal agencies such as the IRS, the U.S. Census Bureau and the HHS Office of Child Support Services. Each page names its sources and the date it was last checked. How we calculate explains the math, and How we check our numbers explains our sources, tests and reviews.
What we are not
We are not a court, a state agency or a law firm, and we are not affiliated with or endorsed by any of them. We don't use state seals or logos.
Our pages give estimates and explanations only, not legal advice. The court or the state child support agency sets the actual amount, and every state lets the court go above or below its guideline in some situations. We don't tell anyone what to do in their case, and we don't collect contact details or refer people to lawyers. For help with your case, contact your state's child support agency (each calculator links to it) or a lawyer licensed in your state.
How the site is paid for
The calculators are free. We plan to show a small number of ads from Google AdSense. We have no affiliate links today; if we add any, they will be clearly marked. Neither ever changes a calculation or what we say about the rules.
